Sales and Merchant Onboarding Executive

Kigali, Rwanda · Full-time, with regular merchant visits

Avyo Africa helps businesses turn customer conversations into sales. Our platform connects WhatsApp commerce, product catalogues, orders, payments, fulfilment and customer engagement, helping merchants manage their operations and grow from one place.

We help businesses reach customers through campaigns, recover abandoned carts and encourage repeat purchases.

We are looking for a resourceful, commercially minded Sales and Merchant Onboarding Executive to help grow our merchant base.

You will work directly with the founder to identify potential merchants, demonstrate Avyo, convert prospects into paying customers and help them start using the platform successfully.

Your involvement continues after the sale. You will support merchants through onboarding, help them process their first orders and follow up to ensure they see value and continue using Avyo.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys meeting business owners, understands the realities of running a small business and can explain technology in simple, practical terms.

Key responsibilities

Merchant acquisition and sales

  • Identify and approach businesses that could benefit from Avyo, particularly merchants already selling through WhatsApp, Instagram and other digital channels.
  • Build a qualified pipeline through field visits, calls, referrals, networking and targeted outreach.
  • Understand each merchant's sales process, challenges and business priorities.
  • Demonstrate how Avyo can help merchants manage orders, collect payments, follow up with customers and generate repeat business.
  • Explain subscription packages, follow up on proposals and close sales within agreed pricing guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records of prospects, meetings, next steps and sales outcomes.

Merchant onboarding and activation

  • Guide merchants through account setup, catalogue preparation and relevant channel and payment configuration, with technical support where needed.
  • Train business owners and their staff on the platform's core features.
  • Help merchants launch their ordering journey and process their first genuine customer orders.
  • Follow up during the first weeks of use, identify obstacles and coordinate their resolution.
  • Support merchants in using campaigns and cart recovery features where appropriate.

Retention and customer relationships

  • Maintain regular contact with merchants to understand their experience and encourage ongoing use.
  • Follow up on subscription renewals and identify accounts that need additional support.
  • Identify opportunities for referrals, testimonials and expanded use of the platform.
  • Set clear expectations about platform capabilities and escalate technical issues promptly.

Market feedback and reporting

  • Share merchant feedback, recurring objections and competitor insights with the founder.
  • Track weekly activity, sales conversions, merchant activation and renewals.
  • Help improve sales materials, product demonstrations and onboarding guides.

What we are looking for

  • Approximately 1-3 years of experience in sales, business development, merchant acquisition or customer onboarding.
  • Experience selling to SMEs, retailers, restaurants or service businesses is an advantage.
  • Strong spoken Kinyarwanda and English. French or Swahili is an added advantage.
  • Confidence approaching business owners, conducting demonstrations and following up consistently.
  • Comfort using WhatsApp Business, online tools, spreadsheets and customer relationship management systems.
  • Ability to learn software quickly and explain it to people with different levels of digital confidence.
  • Strong organisation, initiative and ownership of targets.
  • Willingness to travel regularly for merchant visits.
  • Integrity when handling customer information, discussing pricing and representing the company.
  • Relevant experience in payments, e-commerce, SaaS, fintech or digital marketing is welcome. Practical ability and evidence of results matter more than a particular academic qualification.

What you can expect

Competitive base salary, performance-based commission, and transport and communication support.

A base salary with performance-based earning opportunities. Direct collaboration with the founder and a meaningful role in shaping Avyo's growth. Product training and support with demonstrations and merchant onboarding. An opportunity to grow into broader commercial responsibilities as the business expands.
