This Privacy Policy explains how Avyo ("Avyo", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects information when businesses ("merchants") and their customers use the Avyo platform — a WhatsApp-first commerce service for African small and medium enterprises.
1. Who we are
Avyo provides software that lets merchants sell, take orders, accept payments, and message their customers over WhatsApp. Avyo integrates with the WhatsApp Business Platform (operated by Meta) and with mobile-money and payment providers to deliver this service.
2. Information we collect
From merchants
- Account details: name, business name, email address, phone number.
- Business content: product catalog, prices, store settings.
- Billing information needed to charge for the service.
From customers (collected by merchants through Avyo)
- WhatsApp phone number and display name.
- Order details: items, quantities, delivery information a customer provides.
- Messages exchanged with the merchant through WhatsApp.
Automatically
- Message delivery/status metadata from the WhatsApp Business Platform.
- Technical logs (e.g. timestamps, error and security logs) needed to operate the service.
We do not collect or store full payment-card numbers. Payments are processed by regulated payment providers (e.g. mobile-money and card aggregators).
3. How we use information
- To operate the service: process orders, send order and payment notifications, and enable merchant–customer messaging.
- To process payments and calculate applicable fees.
- To provide support, maintain security, prevent fraud, and comply with law.
- To improve the reliability and quality of the platform.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use customer message content for advertising.
4. WhatsApp and Meta
Avyo uses the WhatsApp Business Platform provided by Meta. When a merchant connects their WhatsApp Business account to Avyo, we access only the data needed to send and receive that merchant's business messages, manage their message templates, and manage their business phone number(s). Our use of information obtained through Meta's platforms complies with Meta's Platform Terms and Developer Policies. Messages sent over WhatsApp are also subject to WhatsApp's own terms and privacy policy.
5. Payments
Payments are handled by third-party payment providers. Avyo receives confirmation of payment status and a transaction reference to fulfil orders and calculate fees, but does not store sensitive payment credentials.
6. Sharing of information
We share information only as needed to run the service:
- With Meta / the WhatsApp Business Platform, to send and receive messages.
- With payment providers, to process transactions.
- With infrastructure and hosting providers that operate our systems.
- Where required by law, regulation, or valid legal process.
7. Data retention
We keep information for as long as needed to provide the service and to meet legal, accounting, and security obligations, after which it is deleted or anonymised. See our Data Deletion page to request deletion.
8. Security
We use technical and organisational measures to protect information, including encryption of sensitive credentials at rest and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and to respond promptly to incidents.
9. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information. To request deletion, follow the instructions on our Data Deletion page or contact us below.
10. Children
Avyo is intended for businesses and adults. It is not directed at children.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
